The very first issue of 256photo Magazine opens beneath the vaulted stone archway of Duke Chapel in Durham and closes on a quiet pasture at dusk — in between, a spiral staircase winds through Miami's Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, a fountain sculpture drips at Wilmington's Airlie Gardens, and the old waterwheel at Yates Mill still turns outside Raleigh. Half of the issue's pages are a first-of-its-kind "Instagram Fan Favs" feature — a running, reader-driven repost of the same photographers' work chosen entirely by engagement on 256photo's own Instagram feed.
